Synopsis

In 2007, Naomi Klein published The Shock Doctrine.
A collective trauma, a war, a coup d'état, a natural disaster, or a terrorist attack plunges each individual into a state of shock. After the shock, we revert to childhood, becoming more inclined to follow leaders who claim to protect us. If there is one person who understood this phenomenon very early on, it is Milton Friedman, winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1976.
Friedman, a supporter of ultra-liberalism, advised politicians to impose painful economic reforms immediately after a crisis, before people had time to recover. He called this method shock treatment.
Naomi Klein calls it the shock doctrine.
Using numerous archival images, Michael Winterbottom and Mat Whitecross demonstrate the power of Naomi Klein's text and the need to resist.
