Synopsis

With just a few days left before the end of the 20th century, the world eagerly awaits the year 2000. To escape the countdown and collective hysteria, a group of friends, led by François, exile themselves for the holidays on an island off the coast of Ajaccio. There are many temptations to break the rules they have imposed on themselves to cut themselves off from the world, but nevertheless, everyone seems to find something to enjoy in this little adventure. Only François can no longer find his place in what he himself desired and organized. No matter how determined he is, no matter how radical his idealism, after cutting himself off from the world, he also distances himself from his closest friends and then from Catherine, the woman he loves. Little by little, he feels that this island of quiet beauty and Stéphane, the young man who welcomes them there, are linked by the same mystery, which isolates him and pushes him to his final retreat. On the evening of the 31st, at the twelfth stroke of midnight, François disappears.
